- Educative Exhibits
The fossa, Madagascar's largest carnivore, is rarely seen in zoos. Duisburg Zoo has been dedicated to keeping this endangered species since 1980 and supports its protection through targeted breeding programs. We are developing seven educative exhibits that provide an insight into the way of life of the fossa on Madagascar and in the zoo.
We summarize the extensive information on seven subject areas and prepare it in a way that is understandable for the target groups. In doing so, we ensure that the new educative exhibits are integrated into the existing discovery trail in a resource-saving and sustainable way. Analog interaction elements such as flaps, wheels and slide viewers invite visitors to explore. Fossa experts share their experiences via an audio station.
The aim is to provide visitors with information about the fossa in a low-threshold and easy-to-understand way. The seven educative exhibits deal with the fossa as an animal, its habitat, the threat to its species and the local animals and their offspring. An organization that works to protect the fossa is also presented. Visitors can also listen to exciting interviews with experts on various fossa topics. The educative exhibits also contain interactive elements. For example, visitors can open flaps, operate a rotating wheel or view slides through peepholes. In this way, they are actively involved in the educative exhibit.
