The city of Limbach-Oberfrohna would like to bring the historical and cultural development of the town to life with a discovery trail. The aim is for visitors to get to know and understand the town and its history interactively. We are realising the educational trail in the implementation planning and installation.

Task and approach

An educational trail was developed to make it easier to explore the town of Limbach-Oberfrohna. Signposts were placed at relevant locations for this purpose. We have completely redesigned the educational trail and made it much more comprehensive than before. The aim is to convey the historical and cultural history of the town in a fun and accessible way.

Learning the city’s history through play

Our approach

Large main pillars will be erected in four selected neighbourhoods to serve as milestones along the discovery trail. Flyers with a map of the city will guide visitors from pillar to pillar. In addition, a total of 24 signs will be erected at various locations throughout the city, providing both historical and cultural information about each place. In order to give children an understanding of the city's history in a playful way, we are also developing a hidden object picture that is reminiscent of the cityscape in an abstract form. On the reverse side there is the opportunity to answer questions about the city while discovering it. This makes the city's history exciting and understandable for even the youngest children!

Learnings and insights

The nature trail is characterised above all by its simple design language and colourfulness. The inviting and friendly colours of the design make it fun to navigate through the city using the map. This lightness and playfulness is carried into the city. The city invites you to explore and discover, Limbach presents itself in a new light.
